Old Olney is an abandoned town that mostly survived the nuclear missiles that struck D.C. All of the inhabitants are dead, due to a Deathclaw infestation. Old Olney is located southeast of Vault 92, only a short distance away. When viewing your Pip-Boy map, you will find that the area Old Olney is located in has a lighter shade of green compared to the rest of the map.

The player can access the Old Olney Sewers from the town. There are two entrances:

  • A manhole cover located between to buildings in the southwestern corner of the town.
  • A trap door in the northeastern corner of the town, near the fire station. Once falling through you can either open the door to the Old Olney Sewers or you can fast travel away.

Inside the Old Olney Sewers, the player can find the Prototype Medic Power Armor.

The town of Old Olney has been overrun with Deathclaws. Any previous inhabitants have either been killed by them, or have fled the area. When the player enters the town, you will find seven Deathclaws patrolling the outer area. They spawn at random positions and may attack you all at once, resulting in almost immediate death. Entering the Old Olney Sewers will reveal even more Deathclaws. Players should exercise caution when fast travelling to Old Olney, as they will usually appear near a random Deathclaw. Even if the player kills all of the Deathclaws in the area, they will re spawn after a certain period of time.

It is advised that you only enter Old Olney at a higher level and when you have acquired better grade equipment and armor.

If the player has rigged the election in the Republic of Dave so that Dave no longer becomes president, he will travel to Old Olney and claim that it is the "New Republic of Dave". He will then be attacked by various Deathclaws that will almost immediately kill him without the players intervention.
