The Mirelurks are mutant crabs with a hard shell and a penchant for slashing. You'll tend to find them near most irradiated sources of water, or in caves, underground. They can be very hard to kill from behind because of their strong shell which covers most of their head and body. Their main weakness is their face, but it can be hard to hit because of it's small size and because Mirelurk's lower their head when using their charge attack. The best way to kill a Mirelurk is to shoot it's face when in V.A.T.S. mode.
A new variation of Mirelurk called the Swamplurk appear in Point Lookout. The health and strength are identical, the only difference is the color of their shells.
