Derek is one of the locals in Canterbury Commons, he is the nephew of Uncle Roe. During The Superhuman Gambit quest you can ask Derek about The Mechanist and the AntAgonizer. When you ask about The Mechanist he'll tell you his real name and his background, when you ask about the AntAgonizer he'll tell you to ask Joe Porter. Both these pieces of information can help you avoid killing anybody during the quest.
