The game begins with your characters birth, you'll open your eyes and see the shadow of a man standing in front of you, this is your father, James. It'll be during this stage that you can set up your character for the game, you can choose whether it's male or female, what your name will be and how you will look. Once this is complete your mother Catherine goes into cardiac arrest and dies, from there the game will fast-forward 1 year.

The quest begins with the most basic of tutorials, you're now in one of the rooms of Vault 101 and your Dad asks you to walk to him, simply move in his direction to complete the objective.

Next your Dad will lock you in your playpen, to complete this objective, walk over to the gate press the action button and the gate will open, leave the playpen and your done.

After you leave the playpen you get given a more important objective, you'll need to find a book called You're S.P.E.C.I.A.L (which stands for Strength, Perception, Endurance, Charisma, Intelligence, Agility and Luck), with this book you can choose your primary stats. Don't worry, you can change your stats later if you wish.

Once you've chosen your stats, your father will re-enter the room and tell you to follow him walk towards him to end the first quest in the game, you'll then be fast-forwarded 9 years to your 10th Birthday to begin the Growing Up Fast quest.
